On Tuesday, December 19, 2017, Warner Brothers Pictures released their first trailer for the new movie “Ocean’s 8” starring Sandra Bullock.
“Ocean’s 8” is supposed to be one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year because it’s a reboot/sequel to George Clooney’s hit “Ocean’s 11” trilogy.
The news about the making of this reboot had broken late October of 2015 and since then, die-hard “Ocean’s 11” fans were either happy that this time it’s going to be all women or upset that Clooney and the boys would not be returning.
I was one of those individuals that were not happy that this movie was getting remade without George Clooney. However, when I viewed the first trailer on YouTube the day it aired I felt that maybe I could be proven wrong.
Overall, this trailer paid a lot of homage to the original “Ocean’s” movies and they are also having this film work as a continuation of the old films with Clooney, which is great. This could be a surprise Summer 2018 hit.
The opening scene in the trailer reminded me so much of the first “Ocean’s 11” movie since the first movie opens with George Clooney coming out of prison, as this trailer somewhat did. Now, we have a spin-off scene of Sandra Bullock coming out of prison and it honestly gave me the chills in a very odd and strange way.
“Ocean’s 8” is going to be the story of Danny Ocean’s estranged sister, Debbie who is going to make the attempt to pull off the heist of the century only to be located New York City’s star-studded annual Metropolitan Gala.
All the big names in fashion, Hollywood, and Reality TV will make an appearance at this Gala. Stars such as The Kardashians, Taylor Swift, Anna Wintour and much more will be featured.
Debbie also forms a small team of 7-8 people such as her close friend Lou played by Cate Blanchette, Daphne Kluger who is a celebrity and key to the heist played by Anne Hathaway, Tammy played by Sarah Paulson.
Then we have Rihanna as Nine Ball, Mindy Kaling as Amita, Awkwafina as Constance with a possibility of Damien Lewis from “Billions and Homeland” as Debbie’s ex-boyfriend who could be the villain of this movie.
However, one question remains throughout the trailer, “Where is Danny Ocean?” Well in “Ocean’s 8,” George Clooney will not return because unfortunately, Danny Ocean is dead. We will hopefully find out the cause of his death when the film is released.
Matt Damon and Carl Reiner will also reprise their roles as Linus Caldwell and Saul Bloom from the “Ocean’s Trilogy” in little cameo appearances.
The film will also have cameos from celebrities such as Anna Wintour, Alexander Wang, Kim Kardashian, Maria Sharapova, Derek Blasberg, Lauren Santo Domingo, Zayn Malik, Kendall Jenner, Katie Holmes, Olivia Munn, Adriana Lima, Hailey Baldwin, Serena Williams, Kylie Jenner and Zac Posen.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised when I watched this trailer, but the real question is- will “Oceans 8” succeed with the reviews and succeed at the box office? Well, we will find out on June 8th when the film is released.
