This Thursday, the Dance Ensemble Company will perform their Spring Finale. The performance will be held at 8 p.m. at the Edgerton Center.
According to freshman Gabriella Silva, the performance will mix a combination of dance styles, such as contemporary, Irish dance, and Hip Hop.
“I love SHU performances because I get to see some of my best friends and professors come support the dance ensemble and show them what we’ve been working on for the past few months. It’s always exciting to see the audience’s reaction to our newest number,” said senior Virginia Clark.
The performance will include songs from artists such as Drake, Beyoncé, and Florence + the Machine. Other artists will include Chris Brown and Ryan Amdor.
The performers have worked many weeks with their choreographers to bring a good show to the audience.
“The goal of the SHU Dance Ensemble is to perform with such intensity that the audience feels their dedication and love for dance as we present the 2019 Spring Finale,” said freshman Gabriella Silva.
Many of the dancers are seniors and while reflecting on the dance show, they think about how they will be performing one last time.
“It is definitely bittersweet performing for the final time with Dance Ensemble. This program has become such a huge part of my life and I will miss every second of it. Overall, I’m excited to get on stage one last time with the people I love, and I am very much looking forward to it,” said senior Maria Citarella.
As the seniors think about their last performance, they ponder upon those who helped them get where they are.
“Now that my Dance Ensemble journey is coming to a close and this being my final performance, I am ready to leave my heart on the stage. I’m happy and sad, but most importantly I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had, the person and dancer I’ve become, and all the talented, amazing people I have come across over the past few years,” said senior Winnie Victor.
Since the seniors are leaving, many think about the family that they created and those that they will miss once they graduate.
“In next week’s show, I am looking forward to showcasing my own choreography and sharing the stage with the Class of 2019 one last time during the senior dance,” said senior Taylor Samuel. “With this being my final Dance Ensemble show, I will miss my Dance Ensemble girls the most; they are some of the most supportive, talented, inspiring people I’ve met during my time at SHU.”
