The Office of the Registrar is moving to West Campus. The main Academic Building office was closed on Oct. 7 to prepare for the move to their new office.

“We will be open [in West Campus]on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 8:30 a.m.,” explained Registrar employee Dona Perrone.

The new location of the Registrar will be on the first floor of the West Building in Section M.  As for the former office:

“It is my understanding that they will be converting the space for academic purposes,” said Perrone.

Sacred Heart students had varying opinions about the move.

Junior Kerin Ignegneri said, “I think it’s a good idea for clutter, but I still think students are going to flood to West Campus.”

With Registrar being such an important spot, especially during class registration time, Ignegneri expressed how difficult it can be to go to the off-campus location.

“It is going to cause an overfill and big increase on shuttles,” said student Ignegneri. Also, she believes those who do have a car will now have to drive to West Campus, taking up more of the parking spots that the usual students, staff and faculty at West Campus usually use.

Not only is the Registrar moving to West Campus, but Student Accounts is as well. The move will leave the Main Academic Building offices open for more academic space. Student Accounts will be located in the same office as the Registrar.

Though students without vehicles of their own will have to take the shuttle or other means to get to West Campus, Perrone believes it won’t be an inconvenience. “With the expansion of the university to various buildings, there isn’t one building that serves all students.”

The Sacred Heart shuttle runs seven days a week. The West Campus shuttle runs from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays, and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays. All SHU shuttle transits are free for Sacred Heart students.

Furthermore, the Registrar, according to Perrone, is planning on making transactions easier for students in the future.

“We are working with IT to create online forms. Once we are settled, we will have a presence in the main Academic Building.”

As stated on the university website, “Student Accounts provides information on tuition and fees, meal plans, health insurance enrollment/waiver, parking fees, and making online payments.”

“I think it is going to make people’s lives a lot harder with both the Registrar and Student Accounts moving to the West Campus location,” said sophomore Angelina Meringolo. “They are a very important stop for all students with different issues from course troubles to tuition and tickets and so many other financial things. I think the move will only add anxiety and stress for the students here.”

Junior Abby Miller spoke about the problems the freshmen may have with the registrar’s new location.

“I don’t think it’s the best option because it’s far from the freshmen,” she said. “College is all so new for them so I feel like many of them might panic about having to go all the way to West Campus. It will create so much more stress than is needed.”

Not all problems, however, need to be taken directly to the offices, mentioned employee Perrone. “Students have choices. They can come to the West Campus office, email us at registrar@sacredheart.edu, or call us at 203.371.7890.”
