Theta Phi Alpha is a sorority that is part of the National Panhellenic Conference. The organization consists of more than 50 chapters throughout the nation, including Gamma Rho, Sacred Heart’s chapter primarily known on campus for their official colors of blue, gold, and silver. They are also known for their official symbol, the compass, and their official mascot, the penguin.
One of Theta Phi Alpha’s primary goals is to provide social networking for women across America. According to their national website, their mission is to “create close comradeship; to advance educational, social and philanthropic interests and leadership training; to encourage spiritual development and adherence to the highest moral standards; and to promote lifelong bonds of friendship.” They additionally strive to maintain “educational excellence, professional achievement, and a deep commitment to social service.”
Theta Phi Alpha at Sacred Heart recently participated in Panhellenic recruitment. Sisters of the organization were excited to meet the class of 2024 and expand their chapter by welcoming new members. While the sisters had to adapt to pandemic protocols, they were successful in sharing their sisterhood, philanthropy, and favorite personal experiences with hundreds of girls.
Theta Phi Alpha’s philanthropy is hunger and homelessness awareness. Sisters have dedicated their time and donated money to the Bridgeport Rescue Mission, a women and children’s shelter, donation center and soup kitchen, to support this cause.
One of Theta Phi Alpha’s favorite philanthropy events is the volleyball tournament that they host every spring semester in honor of their sister Audrey, who passed away suddenly two years ago. Audrey was passionate about Theta Phi Alpha’s philanthropy and helping the community, and the tournament is an exciting way to bring the Sacred Heart community together in remembering Audrey. Every sorority and fraternity on campus comes to the event and competes against each other to win the tournament. Other clubs and sports teams on campus often participate as well.
During this year’s recruitment, Theta Phi Alpha has enjoyed sharing with others what their organization has to offer, and they cannot wait to do so again next year.
