On Thursday Feb. 1 the men’s basketball team hosted the annual Pack the Pitt game. The game against LIU Brooklyn was broadcast live on ESPNU. The Pioneers fell 69-60 to the Blackbirds.
In the first quarter redshirt senior De’von Bartnett blocked a layup from LIU’s Jamall Robinson. The crowd was electric following this play. The highlight would go on to become the second play featured on the SportsCenter: Top 10 Plays on Feb. 2.
Highlights for SHU included freshman Alex Watson tied a career high with 15 points, he was 5-for-7 from the field and made all three of his free throw attempts. Joseph Lopez had a game-high 11 rebound, adding nine points. This was Lopez’s fourth double-digit rebound game in the last five. SHU shot 42.9% from the field.
