History was made during the men’s basketball game against Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) on Feb. 4, when graduate student Raheem Solomon scored his 1,000th career point.
With 8:14 left in the second half of the game, Solomon hit a jumper that put him at exactly 1,000 points.
Despite obtaining a majority of his points at Niagara College, this is a big milestone for the transfer student and for Sacred Heart.
“It took a lot of the stress off when I heard I was getting close to my 1000 points course,” said Solomon. “A lot of people don’t really do it. I have a couple of family members who played basketball for several years all the way to college and didn’t reach that mark so it was really cool.”

This is not the first school named Sacred Heart that Solomon has achieved this kind of milestone at. Solomon graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury, Conn. in 2018.
“To be able to do it back home I went to a school in high school called Sacred Heart, then being at a college called Sacred Heart is pretty cool,” said Solomon.
After three seasons at Niagara, Solomon entered the transfer portal and ultimately chose to come to a school that had previously tried to recruit him during his high school days.
“Unfortunately he decided to go to Niagara, but we had a relationship with him,” said head coach Anthony Latina. “When he was ready for a new challenge, it was a pretty quick process because we were already so familiar with each other. We knew what type of person he was, we knew what type of player he was.”
Sacred Heart fell to Saint Francis College in overtime on Feb. 9 which puts them at 13-14 on the season. Their 13 wins this season has already surpassed their win total from last season which was 10.
They will be back in action against Fairleigh Dickinson University on Feb. 16 at the Pitt Center.
“If the season was to end today we would have a home playoff game which is important to us,” said Latina. “Hopefully we can have a strong finish here.”
