On Nov. 10, E! network presented the 45th E! People’s Choice Awards. The annual awards show was held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.
Each year the nominees are voted upon by fans in categories including television, movies, music and pop culture.
“This was the first time I watched the People’s Choice Awards because I don’t normally watch ceremonies like that, but I enjoyed seeing all the celebrities,” said senior Allison O’Reilly.
The show opened with Robert Downey Jr. honoring Kevin Hart, who won the award for Comedy Act of 2019. This marks Hart’s first appearance since he was in a near fatal car accident in Sept.
After accepting his award, Hart spoke about his near death experience: “First and foremost…thank God because I definitely don’t have to be here. Being that I am, it makes me appreciate life even more.”
Zendaya won the award for TV Drama Star of 2019 for “Euphoria,” and Female Movie Star of 2019 for her role in “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” Her co-star, Tom Holland, also took home an award for the same film in the category Action Movie Star of 2019.
“Avengers: Endgame” won the award for Movie of 2019, with Robert Downey Jr. winning Male Movie Star of 2019 for his role as Iron Man in the film.
“Avengers was one of my favorite movies this year, so it definitely deserved the win,” said senior Emily Miller.
Cole Sprouse took home two awards, one award for his role in the film “Five Feet Apart” and the other award in television series “Riverdale.”
Jennifer Aniston was honored with the People’s Icon of 2019 award for her numerous roles in film and television. In her acceptance speech, she paid tribute to her role in the series “Friends.”
“If I have any claim to this word ‘icon,’ it’s only because I was able to be on an iconic show, with an iconic cast and an iconic haircut,” said Aniston, “ ‘Friends’ was truly a gift of a lifetime, and I would not be standing up here without that amazing show and without those amazing five other actors.”
Aniston’s movie, “Murder Mystery,” also won the award for Comedy Movie of 2019, which stars Adam Sandler and Luke Evans as well.
Netflix’s “Stranger Things” received awards in the categories of Show of 2019, as well as Drama Show of 2019. The series beat shows like “Game of Thrones,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “This is Us,” “Riverdale” and “The Walking Dead” in both categories.
Millie Bobby Brown won the award for Female Star of 2019 for her work in “Stranger Things.”
For its final season, “The Big Bang Theory” won Comedy Show of 2019. The series beat fellow nominees “The Good Place,” “Grown-ish,” “Modern Family,” “Orange is the New Black,” “Saturday Night Live,” “Schitt’s Creek” and “Veep.”
