The admissions calendar for the Sacred Heart University Class of 2029 has seen significant activity recently. The first Early Decision (ED) application deadline was Nov. 15, 2024, while the first Early Action (EA) application deadline was Dec. 1, 2024.
Students who applied through the regular decision option had a submission deadline of Jan. 15, with expectations for decisions to be finalized and delivered by mid-March.
Although the size of the upcoming class won’t be finalized until May 1, Jenna Chernick, a Senior Admissions Assistant, said that she has seen a lot of interest from prospective students.
“So far, I’ve noticed that next year’s class is really engaged and eager to learn more about Sacred Heart. Whether it’s on tours, at open houses, or through conversations, they ask thoughtful questions and seem genuinely excited about the opportunities here,” said Chernick. “It’s great to see students who already have a strong interest in being involved on campus and making the most of their college experience.”
“As the school continues to grow itself, I also notice that every incoming class size seems to slowly get bigger and bigger,” said sophomore Averi Wurst.

Student engagement has always been a crucial and central focus in SHU’s admissions efforts, as the university recognizes the importance of fostering a vibrant, interactive learning environment.
“As a Student Ambassador, I play a key role in welcoming prospective students and helping them envision themselves at Sacred Heart. My main responsibilities include giving campus tours, answering questions about student life and academics, and sharing my personal experiences,” said Chernick.
“I also assist with admissions events like open houses and accepted students’ days, where I get to interact with both students and their families. My goal is to make them feel comfortable and excited about the possibility of joining our community,” she said.
Chernick said that being a Senior Admissions Assistant has given her feelings of nostalgia, considering that she was in the same shoes as the Class of 2029 four years ago.
“It’s really a full-circle moment,” said Chernick. “I remember being in their position, feeling both excited and nervous about choosing a school. Now, I love being able to provide reassurance and guidance to students who are where I once was. It’s rewarding to share my journey and show them what’s possible at Sacred Heart. Seeing their enthusiasm reminds me of how far I’ve come, and it makes me even more grateful for the experiences I’ve had here.”
There are numerous events coming up for admitted students to learn more about SHU and explore their areas of interest.
A Class of 2029 Early Decision Celebration was held on Feb. 16 for students who applied for ED and were accepted. An Admitted Students Day for the Colleges of Arts & Sciences, Business & Technology and Education will be held on March 15 at 9:30 a.m., while an Admitted Students Day for the Colleges of Health Professions and Nursing will take place on March 23 at 9:30 a.m.
There are three Admitted Students Days for the entire class, taking place on March 30, April 6 and April 13, all at 9:30 a.m. Numerous virtual events will be held in the next few months as well, beginning on Feb. 25.
Prospective students can also attend campus tours and take part in virtual interviews with admissions counselors to have all of their questions answered.
“Seeing prospective students so excited and curious about SHU reminds me of why I chose this university in the first place,” said Jaiden Cavallo, Sophomore Admissions Assistant. “I’m proud to be part of this community and can’t wait to welcome the Class of 2029.”
