In her third season, junior Kailee Welch earned herself the title of Northeast Conference golfer of the month in October. The Huntington Beach, Ca. native finished top 15 in all four tournaments she has competed in this season.
“It was a huge honor to receive this award in the month of October,” said Welch. “I felt more connected to myself and my swing, my confidence was at its highest and I had a lot of faith in my team as well.”
Welch took first at the Sacred Heart University (SHU) Fall Classic on Oct. 17 and 18 with 18-hole scores of 71 and 74, respectively.
In his 17th season as both the men’s and women’s head golf coach, Head Coach Matthew McGreevy has seen Welch succeed since she stepped on the course her freshman year.
“I am very pleased with Welch’s individual performance to close out the fall season,” said McGreevy. “She was able to propel her individual programs to our best ranking to date in the golf stat rankings.”
Welch looks to carry the momentum she has had into the spring season as Sacred looks to make a run at a NEC title.
“I am definitely looking forward to the harder competition in the spring and traveling with my team to Florida,” said Welch. “Hopefully it will be better weather compared to last year, but I am confident my game will continue to get better and help our team move forward in our conference.”
The fall season concluded with the St. John’s Invitational on Oct. 26 where Welch finished 15th overall with a score of 76 for 18 holes. The Pioneers placed seventh overall as a team.
