iPhone 12 Announced

Apple recently released their 6.2-in. iPhone 12 along with the 5.4-in. iPhone 12 mini, which now marks the smallest iPhone on the market. The phones became available for preorder on Friday, Oct. 16 with a launch on Friday, Oct. 23.

Senior Charlie Fusari purchased the new phone at the Apple store.

“I actually didn’t preorder the phone, I went to the Apple store on the release date and gave my name so I could go back later to purchase the phone,” said Fusari.

According to Apple, the new iPhone comes in a variety of new colors which include blue, green, black, white and red. Many students feel that the iPhone is very similar to the older iPhone 5.

“I have to say I love the new design,” said Fusari. “It kind of looks like the iPhone 5, if anyone remembers what that looks like. I also really like the matte finish.”

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini are very similar to each other with the only difference being the screen and battery size. Both phones share updated colors and cameras.

According to Apple’s website, “The new camera features include better quality photos taken at night using night mode, and brighter and higher quality photos.”

“The camera looks like it has a lot of good features with the two camera setup,” said senior Chris Gillis. “I also like that they have a 12 and a 12 mini because it’s easier to carry around smaller phones and it’s nice to have a choice.”

One of the new features on the iPhone 12 is the upgraded 5G. According to Apple, “This new feature is expected to improve download and upload speeds, higher quality video streaming and FaceTiming in high definition.”

“What I do like about the new phone is that it now has 5G, which has been getting hyped up the last couple of months,” said senior Sean Murray. “But I don’t plan on getting it anytime soon since it would cost me a month’s rent.”

With the new iPhone having similar features as last year’s iPhone 11, many students say that they will not purchase the new phone.

“I don’t think I’ll be getting this phone. I have the 11 right now, and I don’t think I have any need to get rid of this phone because it definitely does the same thing as the new phone,” said freshman Alex Chakar.

The one feature that sets the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini apart from other iPhones released in recent years is the new look and design of the phone.

“I personally don’t know much about the iPhone 12, so I don’t have much interest in it,” said freshman Isabella Rogler. “One noticeable feature that would attract me to it would probably be the more boxy shape like the older phones. I think that’s kind of cool.”

Unlike other iPhones released in the past, this release does not include a charging brick with every purchase.

“One thing that surprised me was not receiving a charging brick when you purchase the phone,” said junior Brooke Cahill. “Apple is no longer giving out charging bricks because they are trying to reduce their carbon footprint, which I think is smart because most people already have them anyway.”
