On Nov. 2, Amazon Prime premiered its new series, “Homecoming,” starring Julia Roberts.
“Homecoming” is a psychological thriller following Heidi Bergman, portrayed by Roberts, a former caseworker at the Homecoming Transitional Support Center. The facility is supposed to help soldiers transition to regular life.
The story follows Bergman living a new life after leaving the facility years ago. The plot thickens grows when a Department of Defense auditor questions why she left Homecoming and she soon realized that she was lied to.
Roberts’ character is a counselor at Homecoming, who treats soldiers who are trying to overcome their post-traumatic stress disorder. Students have expressed their appreciation for the actress.
“Julia Roberts is a great actor; her movies always seem to find a way to put a smile on my face. I haven’t seen a lot of movies recently but if I had the chance I would watch more,” said senior Emily Solis.
Roberts is a well-known Hollywood actress and producer known for her romantic comedies. She has won three Golden Globe Awards, has been nominated for four Academy Awards, as well as won an Academy Award for Best Actress.
“I did not know that she was going to be in this show and I did not think that Amazon Prime made shows like this, especially with Julia Roberts,” said Solis
Other students shared their surprise on Roberts’ involvement in the series.
“I had no idea Julia Roberts was going to be in this show or the fact that Amazon Prime started to make TV shows. Julia Roberts is an amazing actor but just because she is starring in the show does not mean I’m going to go watch it,” said senior Sarah Evans.
Students indicated how they prefer to watch shows on online streaming services like Netflix and Hulu rather than Amazon Prime Video.
“I did not even know Amazon Prime Video was a thing. I would usually go to Netflix or Hulu because I know they will always have something interesting to watch. When Netflix has new shows or movies releasing everyone knows when it is coming out,” Evans said.
Having Amazon being the streaming service that the new show is shown on, has students voice the difficulties of being able to view the new hit.
“If I knew someone that has an account or if I have the opportunity I would watch ‘Homecoming’ and maybe some other shows. Until this happens, I doubt I will be watching, even though I am kind of interested in how Julia Roberts is going to play her role,” said Evans.
