Staying Positive During COVID-19

My life has always been on the go and I am constantly jumping from one activity to the next.

I leave early in the mornings and come back late and I typically love having a full schedule and so much to do because it keeps me busy and forces me to always be productive and manage my time well.

But over these last few weeks, I have had way more time on my hands which means more time to be lazy and slack off on the work that needs to get done.

I have found myself getting very bored very quickly and trying to find things to do to keep busy and keep myself feeling productive; I don’t want to be wasting all of these days away doing nothing.

When it is nice out, I will walk around my neighborhood for a while by myself. I put on some music and just take time for myself to relax and enjoy the outdoors. There are eight people who live in my house so this is a quiet, peaceful time that I get to myself.

Something else that I have tried to focus on is the positives during all of this.

My mom is a nurse at Holy Name Medical Center, which is the hospital in New Jersey with the highest number of COVID-19 patients.

She is also immunocompromised which means that she is a part of the high-risk group.

I get so nervous every time she leaves for work hoping that she doesn’t get sick. But I have really been trying to keep my mind off of the negative things and focus on the fact that I am so proud of her and so lucky to call such an amazing woman my mom.

Since I live in Connecticut for the majority of the year for school, this is forcing me to spend more quality time with my parents, five sisters and brother.

Although we get bored of each other and fights ensue frequently, we also have been able to enjoy each other’s company and find new things to do together.

This has been a learning experience for everyone.

There are good days and bad days and days that are a lot harder than others but the bottom line is that this will pass and we will have gotten through it together.
