Freshman William Pierce a driving force for SHU Club Golf

The 2021 season is in full swing for the Sacred Heart club golf team as they just wrapped up their second regional tournament of the year with a third place finish on Oct. 16 and Oct. 17. Back in Sept., the Pioneers finished fourth overall at the Metro Region Tournament.

The standout performance for Sacred Heart came from freshman William Pierce. Pierce shot nine over par through 18 holes at the second Metro Region Tournament which placed him third overall.

“In the tournaments that I played in I played pretty well,” said Pierce. “I definitely hit the ball well but made some mistakes along the way and left a lot of shots out there by making little mistakes that I need to avoid making.”

Earlier in the season,  Pierce got his collegiate career started with a second place finish at the first Metro Regional Tournament of the fall. He shot for par in the first round of play and then followed that up with a two over par in the second round.

“My end goal is to try and walk onto the D1 golf team here at Sacred Heart and Tyler Shanley is helping me earn a spot on that team,” said Pierce.

Tyler Shanley is the head coach of the club golf team and a supervising manager of operations and facilities that involve club sports here at Sacred Heart University.

Pierce and the Pioneers look to continue their success going into the spring semester.
