On Oct. 4, Justin Bieber and Dan + Shay released their single, “10,000 hours.” Leading up to the release of the pop song, both artists shared Instagram posts of the cover for the single, which contained snippets of the song.
“I love the new song and I think that these artists collaborate together extremely well and should make more music,” said sophomore Jen Single.
While Justin Bieber has been in the spotlight for several years, Dan + Shay are a rising duo who have produced popular singles like “From the Ground Up” and “Speechless.”
“I absolutely love Dan and Shay. My favorite song of theirs is ‘From the Ground Up.’ I want it to be my wedding song,” said Single.
Justin Bieber has not released an album since his fourth studio album, “Purpose,” came out in 2015. Recently he has been collaborating with artists on their singles such as Billie Eillish’s “Bad Guy” and Ed Sheeran’s “I Don’t Care.”
“I’ve loved Justin Bieber since probably middle school. I’ve seen him in concert twice, but my favorite song ever by him is ‘Been You’ from his album in 2015,” said sophomore Nicole Wood.
Despite his hiatus, fans have not lost their admiration for Bieber.
“Justin Bieber is my favorite artist. I love every song of his, but one of my favorites is ‘That Should Be Me,’ ” said junior Maddie Thomas.
Dan + Shay’s latest album, “Dan + Shay,” was released in 2018. It features top singles like “Tequila” and “Speechless.”
The duo are a relatively new act who some students don’t know as well.
“I don’t really like Dan and Shay but I love the song ‘Speechless’ by them. It’s not really my music taste but their songs are so catchy,” said Wood.
Despite students not being a fan of the pop duo, they enjoyed their new collaboration with Bieber.
“The song ‘10,000 hours’ is actually a really cute and sentimental song. I usually don’t listen to Dan + Shay, but I love Justin Bieber and the idea behind the song made it even better,” said Wood.
“I think it’s a beautiful song and I am obsessed with it,” said sophomore Ava Tompkins.
According to Spotify, during its first week “10,000 Hours” landed on 39 out of 50 Spotify New Music Playlists. Upon its initial release, the single remains popular in the United States, reaching the number one spot on the iTunes chart.
“I think the song will stay popular because it’s a pop and country song, so it appeals to more people,” said Tompkins.
Wood adds on, “I think the song will be popular for a while but eventually overplayed on the radio. Definitely going to be a number one song for the next few months.
Bieber and Dan + Shay released a music video a few hours after the single came out, which featured each of their wives alongside them.
“I watched the music video with my friends and we all loved it. My personal favorite part was when Justin was singing to Hailey, his wife, on the bed. It was just such a cute part and to see two people who are actually in love on the screen together was so cute,” said Wood.
